Gabriel (Gabe) Arlia

Gabriel Arlia, fondly known as “Gabe”, is 96 years old.  Gabe’s life has been a testament to resilience, hard work, and dedication to God, family and country.

At just 17, Gabe began his three-year active-duty service in the Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. Reflecting his deep commitment to his country, Gabe continued his service in the Marine Corps Reserves from 1953 until 1980.

Gabe worked at Weirton Steel Corporation for 42 years, retiring as a Mechanical Foreman in the 54’’ Hot Mill.

Gabe has been an active member of his communities by dedicating his time to various organizations. He is a proud member of the Tri-State Marine Corps and is a founding member and commander of the Tri-State Young Marines. Gabe also belongs to International Seniors, the ISDA Weirtonian Lodge, Sons of Italy, Rescue 40 Search and Rescue Team, and was a Charter Member of the Weirton Police Department Reserves from 1970 to 1984. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus 3734.

One of Gabe’s greatest honors has been serving as Chaplain for the Weirton American Legion Honor Guard. For over 30 years, he has paid tribute to his fallen brothers by offering a pass and review, taps, and a gun salute—through all weather conditions.
