Purpose & Establishment
The Weirton Hall of Fame Committee was established to honor former and current Weirton Residents for "outstanding accomplishment" in the following six specific areas of endeavors:
- Business, Industry and Professions
- Education and Religion
- Music and Fine Arts
- Philanthropy
- Public Service
- Sports and Athletics
The Hall of Fame Committee was established in 2008 by an Ordinance submitted by Councilperson Max Fijewski and unanimously approved by Weirton City Council. At that time, the City Council also approved the establishment of a Hall of Fame Study Committee to develop the by-laws under which the Committee would operate. The final document from the Study Committee was received, reviewed, and approved by City Council.
Nominations for Weirton's Hall of Fame
Nomination forms will be available for 2023 at a future time; locations will also be posted at that time. It is important to note that each nomination must state the reason for the nomination in a biography and list the major accomplishment(s) of the nominee. Failure to provide this documentation will exclude the nomination from further consideration, with no exceptions.
