[ARCHIVED] Panhandle Trail Access Limited During Paving

WEIRTON -- During the final phase of asphalt paving of the Panhandle Rail Trail, access to the parking lot at the Harmon Creek trailhead as well as some areas of the trail itself may be limited.

The Weirton Public Works Department will began the final phase of asphalt paving on the city’s Panhandle Rail Trail (PRT) on Monday.

While Monday's work had little effect on access to the parking lot at the Harmon Creek trailhead and the main branch of the PRT, future paving work taking place between now and May 31 is likely to limit access to both.

Users of the PRT should observe all markings and barriers designed to keep the public safe as work continues. Any areas marked by cones, barriers, blockades or clearly marked as work zones should be avoided at all times. Visitors to the PRT are also reminded to stay off freshly laid asphalt until it has cooled and hardened, which usually takes between 24 and 72 hours.

Visitors to the PRT can park and access the trail at the Collier's Station parking area, located in Colliers just short of the Pennsylvania state line.

Any questions regarding access to the PRT can be answered by calling the Park Board's main offices at (304) 797-8520.
