WHEREAS, Governor Jim Justice declares Thanksgiving week as Christian Heritage Week in West Virginia; and,
WHEREAS, Christian values, customs, and traditions are respected and celebrated as part of our legacy in the United States, West Virginia, and Weirton; and,
WHEREAS, the influence of Christianity in Weirton is evident by its many churches, charities, ministries, missions, and schools; and,
WHEREAS, in 1978, Robert J. DiFonzo, President of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship, with his wife Mary Ann, undertook the responsibility of putting up the beautiful, life-size Nativity scene in front of the Millsop Community Center; and,
WHEREAS, Robert DiFonzo passionately ensured the Nativity was built, maintained, and displayed yearly for all to remember the true reason we celebrate the Christmas season; and,
WHEREAS, through the years, Robert involved his family in assisting with the Nativity, which has led to the DiFonzo Family continuing the tradition for four generations; and,
WHEREAS, after Robert’s unfortunate passing in 2001, his oldest son, Bobby DiFonzo, stepped in to continue the legacy and ensure the Nativity scene was displayed each year; and,
WHEREAS, every year, the DiFonzo Family, Mills Family, Corbin Family, Watts Family, and Greer Family volunteer their time, resources, and talents to display the Nativity scene, which entails maintenance, storage, and funding, all of which they have done as a service to our community and to the Lord; and,
WHEREAS, Thanksgiving and Christian Heritage Week is an appropriate time to give thanks to these families and volunteers for forty-seven years of devotion to our community and for keeping Christ in Christmas.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Harold E. Miller, Mayor of the City of Weirton, on behalf of the citizens of this community, do hereby proclaim November 24 through November 30, 2024,  as Christian Heritage Week and invite all citizens to join me in this recognition of the DiFonzo Family, Mills Family, Corbin Family, Watts Family, Greer Family, as well as the extended families and friends who have left a legacy of service to our Almighty God and have made an eternal impact on our community.
