Business License Program

The City of Weirton Business License Program issues new and renews existing business licenses on an annual basis.  A City business license is valid from January 1 through December 31 of each calendar year.  The City of Weirton does not prorate the business license fee.

No Business License will be processed unless the application is filled out completely, a copy of your West Virginia Business Registration Certificate is included, and be in good standing with the City of Weirton including payment of the Police and Fire Service fees, filing, and payment of both B&O Tax and the Municipal Service Fee.


Registering Your Business with the State of West Virginia

Please be aware that it is a requirement that every applicant for a city business license to present its State of West Virginia Business Registration Certificate prior to applying for the City business license.

To obtain a West Virginia Business Registration Certificate, contact the West Virginia Secretary of State or the West Virginia State Tax Department.

 By registering with the West Virginia Secretary of State, the business will also be registering with the State Tax Department.

Submitting Your Business License Application to the Program Manager

Completed Business License Applications can be submitted to Program Manager Maguschak via the following methods:


Office Visit Method (Check/Credit Card Preferred) 



  1. Compile your completed application, WV Business Registration Certificate, and any other required documents.
  2. Visit Mikeal's Office, Office 204, on the second floor of the city building. 
  3. The application will be submitted to the Finance Department for review and approval. If debt is owed to the Finance Department, the Accounting Analyst will contact the business to discuss the steps needed to correct the debts. 
  4. Once approved by the Finance Department, the Program Manager will process the business license. Licenses are submitted electronically to the emails provided on the application. If an email is not provided, a paper copy will be mailed to the legal address of the applicant. 

Optional: You may also deposit your paperwork and check in the silver utility drop off box behind the City Building. Please put the paperwork in an envelope and write "Attention: Business License Office" 

Optional: If you would prefer to receive a paper version instead of pdf,  Write "Paper Copy Preferred" on top of your application. 

Mail In Method (Requires Check Payment) 


  1. Compile your completed application, WV Business Registration Certificate, and any other required documents.
  2. Mail your paperwork and check to: Attention: Business License Office, 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton, WV 26062.
  3. Upon receipt, The application will be submitted to the Finance Department for review and approval. If debt is owed to the Finance Department, the Accounting Analyst will contact the business to discuss the steps needed to correct the debts. 
  4. Once approved by the Finance Department, the Program Manager will process the business license. Licenses are submitted electronically to the emails provided on the application. If an email is not provided, a paper copy will be mailed to the legal address of the applicant.

Email Method (Requires Credit Card Payment over Phone) 

  1. Compile your completed application, WV Business Registration Certificate, and any other required documents.
  2. Scan and email your application to: mmaguschak@cityofweirton.com
  3. Upon receipt, The application will be submitted to the Finance Department for review and approval.  If debt is owed to the Finance Department, the Accounting Analyst will contact the business to discuss the steps needed to correct the debts.
  4. Once approved by the Finance Department, the Program Manager will send an email confirmation to schedule electronic payment over the phone. 
  5. Once remote payment has been made, The Program Manager will email you a pdf copy of your license and a receipt of purchase.
