WEIRTON CITY COUNCIL

COUNCIL MEETING - SPECIAL

August 1, 2003 5:30 P. M.

A Special Order of Business Meeting of the Common Council of the City of Weirton, Hancock and Brooke Counties, was held on Friday, August 1, 2003 at 5:30 P. M. in Council Chambers of the Municipal Building.

Mayor Miller called the meeting to order.

Councilmembers not in Attendance:

Dale Moore

City Officials in Attendance:

Thomas J. Maher, Jr.

John Yeager

Mayor Miller led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Miller requested that Council convene into Executive Session consistent with West Virginia State Code 6-9-A-4 (4) to discuss personnel and litigation matters. Motion made by Councilmember Kondik, second by Councilmember DeMasis, so passed. For the record, note that Councilmember Miller voted against the motion.

Mayor Miller reconvened the meeting under the agenda of New Business.

NEW BUSINESS

Mayor Miller nominated the name of Gary DuFour for City Manager. The motion was made by Councilmember Miller, and second by Councilmember DeMasis.

Mayor Miller opened the floor for Councilmember's comments.

Councilmember Kondik commented that although he voted against the original nomination of Gary DuFour, he wanted to publicly support the nomination, as Mr. DuFour was being brought in at a level 2 salary. He further stated that the Mayor had his support.

Mayor Miller asked if there were any more comments.

Councilmember Miller commented that he agreed with Councilmember Kondik. He further stated that he initially voted against Mr. DuFour basically because of the salary situation. Because he is coming in at level 2, Councilmember Miller stated that he also affirmed the move.

Mayor Miller thanked the Councilmembers for their comments and support. He then again asked if there were any comments. With no additional comments on the nomination, Mayor Miller requested a roll call vote:

Councilman DeMasis: Yes

Councilman Miller: Yes

Councilman Moore: Absent

Councilman Dorich: Yes

Councilman Dalrymple: Yes

Councilman Veltri: Yes

Councilman Kondik: Yes

Let the record reflect a 6-0 vote in favor of appointing Gary DuFour as Weirton City Manager.

Mayor Miller thanked the Councilmembers, and told them he appreciated their confirmation.

ADJOURNMENT

With no further business before this August 1, 2003 special session of the Weirton City Council, the meeting was adjourned after the closing prayer.
