PUBLIC HEARING TO ACCEPT COMMENTS ON CITY OF WEIRTON’S APPLICATION FOR EPA BROWNFIELD GRANT FOR COVE SCHOOL.

This Public Hearing is to accept comments as required under the EPA Clean-up grant application.  This meeting is to allow public comments and does require feedback or interaction from the council at this time.  Since we have requested written comments, the comments will be taken and reviewed by the city for future public meetings to improve the remediation and/or reuse opportunities.  This is an initial public hearing and future meetings will be scheduled and public notification using local newspapers and our website will be utilized.

Ms. Jodi Kraina commented, “I’ve been asked to speak for them and ask if you would grant them 30 days in order to come up with a business plan and initial funding to save this in order to reopen it as an academy of learning and to bring in new jobs, to create either a bible college and seminary, or to work with a local university and get them to open a local branch here.  We believe we can get the funding and the support for this project.  And, so, I’m just humbly asking for the City Council to at least please consider a 30 day stay on any movement until we can deliver you a business plan and at least show you that there is another workable plan for this building that wouldn’t cost the city anything.”

Mayor Harris thanked Ms. Kraina for her comments.

Mayor Harris commented, “Any other comments.  OK.”
