Boil Water Notice

UTILITY ISSUED

BOIL WATER NOTICE

BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING

On December 6, 2011, a water line broke at the intersection of Main Street and Taylor Avenue in Weirton. The US EPA and the WV Bureau of Public Health require Public Water Systems to notify the public when the water distribution lines have gone dry in affected areas to alert them of possible contamination.  Water lines will be flushed and samples will be collected and tested to insure the water replenishing the effected system is disinfected and in compliance with US EPA Bacteriological Regulations. Areas affected by this notice include 2900 block of Elm St. to the 3500 block of Elm St.; the 2900 block of Orchard St. to the 3500 block of Orchard St.; the 3000 block of Main St. to the 3500 block of Main St.; the 3000 block of West St. to the 3500 block of West St.

What should I do?

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.  If you live in the affected area listed above bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.  Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing, and food preparation until further notice.  Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Disinfection will be verified as soon as possible and the boil water notice will be lifted through local media notification.

What happened? What is being done?

Late Tuesday night a water line broke at the intersection of Main Street and Taylor Avenue. Water Board Crews worked throughout Wednesday to repair the break.  As a result of the break the lines in the above listed areas were drained to allow repairs to be made.  Currently repairs are nearing completion and once lines are repaired lines will be thoroughly flushed and refilled. Following refilling of the water lines samples will be collected and analyzed.  Results of the test will be available as soon as possible and the notice will be lifted as soon as possible .  Verification test results require a minimum of 24 hours before another public notification will be issued lifting this boil water notice.
