Education

 

Institutions of higher learning are conveniently located for Weirton's high school graduates. Four colleges are located nearby, and others are within a few hours' drive of the community. West Virginia Northern Community College offers a variety of associate degree programs at the campus on Weirton Heights. Weirton offers multiple elementary schools, and two high schools in the public and parochial school systems. Find out more by visiting the Hancock County School Board page. The Mary H. Weir Public Library, a gift from the late Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Weir, helps the citizens meet their cultural and informational needs.

 

 





Recreation

 

The Thomas E. Millsop Community Center provides a swimming pool, auditorium, gymnasium, and exercise rooms.

 

Families can enjoy swimming, tennis, and picnics at the Margaret Manson Weir Pool on Marland Heights, and at the Starvaggi Memorial Pool on Weirton Heights, which was a gift to the people of Weirton by the late local industrialist Michael Starvaggi and his wife.

 

 




Health Care

 

The Weirton Medical Center was competed in 1978 and was built at a cost of $25 million. This facility offers private and semi-private rooms, centers for critical and intermediate care, obstetrics, pediatrics, same-day surgery. The Center has a modern emergency department, and is linked to the metropolitan health centers in Pittsburgh by helicopter.
