UTILITY BILL PAYMENT OPTIONS

The City of Weirton offers multiple convenient payment options for your utilty payments:
 
  • Mail - Your newly updated utilty bill is delvered to you with a convenient return envelope which can be used for payments made by mail.
  • Payment Window - The payment window in the Municipal Building is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday during normal business hours.  An ATM machine is located in the main lobby for your convenience.
  • Drop-Box - For your convenience, a utility bill drop box is located in the rear parking lot of the Municipal Building in the area between the Millsop Community Center and the Municipal Building.  (Vehicle access)
You now have the ability to view and print your utility bill online, and you can even go paperless!  Registering for this service is free, and if you choose to go paperless, you will be assisting in elimination of unnecessary paper waste.

In the near future, credit cards will be accepted for utility bill payments.  In the mean time, the ATM machine is located within the main lobby for your convenience.

Connecting or Reconnecting Water Service

Customers wishing to connect or reconnect water service will need to have a photo identification.  If the customer is renting or leasing, we will need a copy of the lease or rent receipt.  The customer of record will have to sign a water contract.  All outstanding utility bills have to be paid in full.  A $50 water meter deposit is due at signing, payable with cash or check.  A $25 water connection fee is due at signing, payable with cash or check.  Connects are first come, first served, and will scheduled the next business day.

Disconnecting Water Service Procedure

Customers disconnecting water service must appear in person at City of Weirton Utilities, 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton.  The customer of record has to be the same person to sign the disconnect form.  The customer will need to have a photo identification.  Disconnects are first come, first served, and will be scheduled the next business day.  Your account will continue to be charged until the water service is terminated by the above instructions.  THE CUSTOMER OF RECORD IS RESPONSIBLE TO PAY THE UTILITY BILL GENERATED FROM THE FINAL READING.

General Information

City of Weirton Utilities is not responsible for mail delivery.  Failure to receive your bill does not excuse responsibility for payment or penalties.  Payments are posted according to the date it is received by the Finance Office, not according to the postmark.  City of Weirton Utilities shall have the right at any time, without notice, to shut off the water in any or all of its mains in case of fire, making necessary repairs or extensions, or for delinquent water bills.

Delinquency Notice Procedure

All utility bills are due upon receipt.  The customer has 20 days to pay the bill before penalties post.  On the 21st day, penalties post for Water and Sewer amounts.  Also on the 21st day delinquency letters are generated and sent by US mail.  The customer has 10 days from the date on the delinquency letter to pay the bill.  On the 11th day after the delinquency letter date the water service is terminated.

Notice

Due to changes in West Virginia State Code (Bill 465), there will be no further collection of utility bills at the door.  A Final Notice Door Hanger will be hung on the door the day before shut off with the shut off date clearly stated on it.  If payment is not made before the shut off date stated, water will be shut off without further notice.  It is also requested that no payments be posted on the door as staff will no longer be approaching the door for payments.
