Storm Water Management

Overview

The City of Weirton storm water program includes educational and regulatory initiatives to encourage environmentally sound development. Storm water ordinances address floodplain management, watershed protection, and sediment and erosion control.
Benefits of the program include:

  • Reducing nitrogen and other pollutants in the Ohio River basin which helps to protect Weirton’s source of drinking water
  • Enabling the City to meet or exceed WV Department of Environmental Protection rules for controlling nitrogen runoff in the Ohio River basin
  • Providing measures to meet storm water regulations of the federal Clean Water Act
  • Preserving aquatic life through cleaner streams in the river basin
