The Weirton Hall of Fame Committee was establilshed to honor former and current Weirton Residents for “outstanding accomplishments” in the following six (6) specific areas of endeavors:

 

The Hall of Fame Committee was established in 2008 by an Ordinance submitted by Councilperson Max Fijewski and unanimously approved by Weirton City Council.  At that time, the City Council also approved the establishment of a Hall of Fame Study Committee to develop the by-laws under which the Committee would operate.  The final document from the Study Committee was received, reviewed and approved by City Council. The Committee consists of nine (9) members who shall be appointed by the 7 members of the Weirton City Council, each of the council members appointing one member.  The remaining two members (2) shall be a member of the City Council who is appointed by the Mayor.  None of the members require the approval of the Mayor or other City Council members.  All appointments must be a current resident of the City of Weirton for a minimum of five (5) years.  Should a committee member not fulfill their term, the appropriate Council person or the Mayor will appoint a replacement to serve the remaining period of the term.

 

The first group of nominees were inducted into the Weirton Hall of Fame in April of 2009.

All nominations are accepted during the period of July 1st to September 30th of each year and must be submitted on a Hall of Fame nomination form.

Each nomination must state the reason for the nomination and list the major accomplishment of the nominee.  Failure to provide this documentation will exclude the nomination from further consideration.
