The VFW Post 4442 in Elm Grove, West Virginia identified a need to begin the Purple Heart Parking Project (PHPP) with the purpose of the project being to provide reserved parking for veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while serving in the U.S. Military.
Understanding and appreciating the VFW Post 4442’s initiative, the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) got involved and committed to place a
designated parking spot for Purple Heart Medal recipients at every West Virginia DMV.
On August 10, 2023, a ceremony was held in Weirton, WV designating a reserved parking spot for Purple Heart Medal recipients at the last West Virginia DMV. Now every West Virginia DMV has a designated parking spot to honor Purple Heart Medal recipients.
We applaud both the VFW Post 4442 and the West Virginia DMV for their efforts in honoring Purple Heart Medal recipients.
