City of Weirton Voters
The City Clerk of the City of Weirton would like to remind all citizens that the City of Weirton will be conducting their 2019 Municipal Primary Election on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. This election is for the office of Mayor for the City of Weirton and of the offices of City Council for each of the City’s seven wards. The polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.
We would like to remind all citizens that to be eligible to vote in the April 2 Primary Election you must be registered with your county clerk’s office NO LATER THAN MARCH 12, 2019, prior to the date of the election.
If you live in Hancock County, you can register by visiting the Hancock County Election Office at 102 Court Street, New Cumberland, WV 26047. For more information, please contact their election office at (304) 564-3311, Ext. 288.
If you live in Brooke County, you can register by visiting the Brooke County Election Office at 623 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV 26070. For more information, please contact their election office at 304-737-3661.
You may also register to vote online by visiting the Voter Registration page of the West Virginia Secretary of State Website at https://ovr.sos.wv.gov. Voter registration applications are also available at the Weirton City Clerk’s Office at 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton, WV 26062, or by visiting the City of Weirton website.
The City Clerk would also like to remind “all” registered voters that they can vote early during the City of Weirton Early Voting. Early Voting will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2019, through Saturday, March 30, 2019 (Excluding Sundays). Please note that Early Voting is only in-person, and will be held at the City of Weirton Municipal Building during normal business hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 – Friday, March 22, 2019, and Monday, March 25 – Friday, March 29, 2019. We will also be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the two (2) Saturdays (Saturday, March 23, and Saturday, March 30) before the April 2, 2019, Primary Election for Early Voting.
Early Voting is very beneficial to voters wanting to vote but are unable to do so on election days. All registered voters living within the City of Weirton may participate in early voting.
The City Clerk would also like to remind “all” registered voters that the applications for Absentee Voting By Mail for the April 2 Municipal Primary Election are currently available at the City Clerk’s Office and on the City of Weirton website.
Absentee Voting By Mail is for those registered voters unable to vote on election day or during the early voting period because of physical illness, disability or hospitalization; absence from the city due to personal or business travel, military service or college attendance; or incarceration in a detention facility, but not under conviction of a felony.
The deadline to submit the application for Absentee Voting by Mail with the City Clerk’s Office is March 27, 2019. Ballots will be mailed as soon as the application is received.
