Weirton: The City Forged by Steel Art Competition Exhibition

“Weirton - The City Forged by Steel”

Art Exhibition

"Show books now available"

Twenty-four artists worked through the fall to capture the last days of Weirton’s largest downtown mill buildings. On January 20, 2018, their works were unveiled at the “Weirton – The City Forged by Steel” art exhibit opening and awards ceremony, and are now on display until March 23, 2018, at the Summit Art Gallery.

The exhibit includes more than 40 pieces from 24 artists, who created their art in a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, drawing and mixed media.

The work is on view weekdays at Summit Art Gallery, 3383 Main St., Weirton, and will also be open for viewing at a handful of special evening and weekend events. Follow the Weirton – The City Forged by Steel page on Facebook for Details.

Local artist Gina Judy, whose work won two awards in the competition, donated her time and energy to create a book of the art exhibit. The book, which includes a photo of every piece in the exhibit, photos of the award-winning artists, and pictures of the opening reception is available for $50.

Profits from the book will be used by the Weirton Renaissance Corp. to continue to support and grow arts and events in the City of Weirton.

Prints of the artwork will also be available for purchase soon. Currently, we have a limited run of signed, numbered prints by Steve Opet, whose BOP Shop Welders (pictured) won the Best fo Show prize in the competition.
