K9 Program

A human-canine officer team is a tried and true law enforcement tool. With their keen eyesight, speed and sense of smell, police dogs can perform some tasks faster and at lower cost than human officers with less risk to officers and the public.

The Weirton Police Department's K-9 Program was established in 1994 with the addition of 4 German Shepherds as part of the Patrol Division. These highly trained canines, along with their handlers have become a vital part of the Weirton Police Department.
